Extravagant Wines You Can’t Afford

Date

Heidsieck, 1907: $275,000

The Heidsieck wine was a 1907 vintage that was being delivered to Tsar Nicholas II during World War I. It never reached its destination, thanks to a German U-Boat sinking the ship carrying the wine. Eighty years later the shipwreck was discovered at the bottom of the Gulf of Finland and its precious cargo brought to land, with about half of the 2000 bottles still drinkable. Today, the wine continues to be purchased for a quarter of a million dollars.
