Chateau Lafite, 1787: $156,540

The 1787 bottle of Chateau Lafite was rumored to be from U.S. President Thomas Jefferson’s cellar. Although his initials were etched into the bottle, experts have long argued about its authenticity. Publisher Malcolm Forbes bought the bottle for $156,450 in 1985. Considering the bottle’s age, the contents would be nothing but vinegar at this point, but its interesting history is one that will continue to entertain wine historians.
